📌 Conception typically occurs 11–21 days after the first day of your LMP, depending on your cycle length.

About the Pregnancy Conception Calculator

While an exact conception date can rarely be pinpointed with certainty, there are two practical uses for a conception calculator: working backward from a due date to estimate when conception occurred, and working forward from a cycle to identify the fertile window for family planning.

Our Pregnancy Conception Calculator does both. Enter your due date to estimate conception date, or enter your last menstrual period and cycle length to find your ovulation date and peak fertility window.

How It Works

To find conception date from due date: subtract 266 days (38 weeks). To find your fertile window from LMP: add (cycle length − 14) days to find estimated ovulation, then identify the 5–6 day fertile window (5 days before ovulation through ovulation day). The calculator also shows the likely conception date range (±3 days around ovulation).

Formula / Key Reference

Estimated conception date = Due Date − 266 days
Estimated ovulation = LMP + (Cycle Length − 14 days)
Fertile window = Ovulation Date − 5 days to Ovulation Date
Conception range = Ovulation Date − 3 days to Ovulation Date + 1 day

Real-World Example

Scenario 1 — Finding conception date from due date:

Due date: December 15, 2026

Estimated conception date = December 15 − 266 days = March 23, 2026
Conception window (±3 days): March 20–26, 2026

Scenario 2 — Finding fertile window from LMP:

LMP: March 10, 2026

Cycle length: 30 days (slightly longer than average 28)

Estimated ovulation = March 10 + (30 − 14) = March 10 + 16 = March 26

Fertile window: March 21–26

Peak fertility day: March 24–26

This tells the couple that the best time to try to conceive is March 21–26, with peak probability on March 24–26.

Common Uses

  • Determining approximate conception date for medical or personal records
  • Identifying peak fertile days when trying to conceive
  • Understanding the relationship between LMP, ovulation, and due date
  • Planning conception timing around work travel or important events
  • Cross-checking due dates estimated by different methods

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I know my exact conception date?
Only in cases of a single unprotected encounter or IVF. For most couples, conception is estimated because sperm can survive up to 5 days in the reproductive tract, meaning sex several days before ovulation can result in conception. Conception date is therefore a range, not a precise moment.
What is the best time in my cycle to conceive?
The fertile window spans from 5 days before ovulation through the day of ovulation. The two highest-probability days are the day before and the day of ovulation. Having sex every 1–2 days throughout this window gives the best odds. Ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) can identify the LH surge that precedes ovulation by 24–36 hours.
Does cycle length affect when I ovulate?
Yes. Ovulation typically occurs 14 days before the next period, not 14 days after the LMP. So if you have a 35-day cycle, you likely ovulate on day 21, not day 14. Women with irregular cycles may ovulate at variable times and may benefit from tracking basal body temperature or using OPKs.
